Home Your Part

Do you believe that the Philippine Criminal Justice System needs to be reformed?  Do you believe that you can make a difference?  Do you believe that injustice pervades our criminal justice sytem?  Do you believe in Liberty?  Do you believe in Freedom? in Justice?  YOU CAN DO SOMETHING!

FOR LAWYERS:

You can volunteer as a lawyer and handle cases with the foundation.  There are many inmates whom the foundation cannot help simply because we lack lawyers and we do not have the money to hire lawyers.  Your legal assistance can make a difference.  You can help facilitate the release of one or countless inmates who have been illegally detained or arbitrarily arrested or at the least you can help the inmates feel that they are still worth of the dignity of a human person by just accompanying him or her in court.

FOR LAW STUDENTS:

You may feel feel that you are thousands of years away from being a lawyer but mind you, you can do many things.  Many of our volunteer inmates have not stepped in college but they were able to help many of their fellow inmates after attending short lectures from us.  Think how much you can do?

As an added bonus, while you volunteer with us, the foundation guarantees that you will learn many things that you will never encounter in law school.

Things you can do with us:
  • You can volunteer to follow up cases in court and learn about the Criminal Procedure through experience.
  • You can volunteer to provide trainings and seminars to inmates.
  • Or if you do not want to visit the jails, you can always do legal research and write motions and pleadings for us.

If you are interested, you can contact us at anytime, get yourself interviewed and wait for our evaluation.  The criteria that we really value most are dedication and commitment.

If you volunteer with us, we will reimburse work related expenses.

FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS:

Our work is not just for lawyers and for those who wanted to be lawyers, it can also be for everybody.  If you want to do your internship with you can always do so.  Just submit the following:

  • your letter of intent narrating why you want to have your internship with us,
  • your resume
  • endorsement from your school
  • parent's consent

Mostly your work will be office work and maybe some field works but not inside the jail.  If you wish to work with us inside the jail, your parent's consent must specify that they are allowing you to work inside the jails.

FOR BUSY PERSONS:

If you answered a YES! (with an exclamation point) to the questions above, but you do not have the luxury of time, you can always help us by sharing your resources so that we can continue our work.

  • You can DONATE TO HLAF by using electronic donation form or by giving cash.  You are always welcome to call or visit us.
    • we need at least $1 to print one Detainees Notebook.
    • we need at least $2 for transportation to follow up cases in court and set hearings for at least 10 inmates who do not have a scheduled hearing.
    • we need at least $5 to visit the jails within Metro Manila.
    • we need at least $50 to conduct trainings to our PARALEGAL COORDINATORS.
    • we need at least $500 to buy 1 computer to be given to Jails for the Simplified Inmates Record System.
    • we need at least $1000 to legally represent an inmate in court..
    • we need at least $5000 to implement our PARALEGAL COORDINATORS PROJECT in one jail.
  • You can also donate in kind to support our INMATES' WELFARE PROJECT
    • you may give medicines
    • you may give really big exhaust fans and electric fans.
  • You can always PRAY for us and the Criminal Justice System of the Philippines, you can always bless us in your meditations.  We really need it.
